The Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) participated in the University Championship Cup (UCC) 2011, which is a sports tournament for private universities in different sports which started in 2006. The universities who competed with GUST this year are the American University of Kuwait (AUK) and the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK).
The UCC participants competed in five intercollegiate sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis and table tennis. The sport venues were provided by participating universities, allowing the UCC to take place on various campuses. This year AUK hosted table tennis, ACK hosted soccer and tennis, and GUST hosted basketball and volleyball in its grand gym.
The UCC 2011 started at the beginning of April with seasonal play. As the season progressed, the universities where ranked based on their win/lose record in each sport. GUST won first place in Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Table Tennis, Women’s Table Tennis and Men’s Soccer while trailing hot in second place with Men’s Basketball and Men’s Volleyball.
The awards ceremony was held at ACK to honor all the participating teams, student-athletes and award the UCC 2011 trophy – where 1st place was awarded to AUK, GUST at a close 2nd and ACK at 3rd place.
